The wooly devil

Our name and mark are inspired by the wooly devil (Ovicula biradiata), a small, woolly-haired wildflower discovered in Big Bend National Park, Texas — the first new plant genus described in a U.S. national park in nearly fifty years.

A member of the sunflower family, it hugs the desert floor beneath a coat of dense white hairs, with two maroon-striped ray petals that give it its species name, biradiata — "two-rayed." Formally described in 2025, it is still known from only a handful of spots in the Chihuahuan Desert: quietly resilient in an unforgiving place.
